It’s rainy (shocking) but I’m finally well rested so before I take off I thought I’d post a few photos of Inverness. I just found out from a couple of young female Airbnbers at breakfast this morning that Outlander occurs around here. I had no idea. (As a side note, it took me about 5 minutes of hearing them speaking to one another to realize they’re Italian!! I kept catching some Italian words and thought perhaps they were speaking some other similar Romance language — or had a weird accent — but of course one girl is from Rome so no excuse there. That said, it was the girl from Modena who I had a bigger difficulty understanding! My son would be mortified but I did speak a little with them in Italian but frankly it’s easier all around in English! Though I was better able to eavesdrop in their conversation after I had a cup of tea…)
Back to Inverness. I don’t know anything about the history but it is a pretty city. Reminds me of any mid-sized northern European city on a river (think the Danube). I took a walk, starting at the castle which is a literal highpoint overlooking the river. Here’s the view.
And here’s the castle — I took this photo after I went down to the riverside as it’s a nicer shot of it.
I took a nice walk, crossing the river a few times on both pedestrian and car bridges. I took the first photo from one of the bridges
There’s an old town area as well, which is for pedestrians only. Overall it’s a cute city and seems very livable but maybe for this non-outlander tourist, I’m fine with just one day here.
Onwards!
